Limited to production of 73 pieces
a tribute to Antoni Gaudi’s contributions to the magnificent Basilica in Barcelona.
The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia was originally the inspiration of a bookseller, Josep Maria Bocabella, but in March of 1883, Antoni Gaudi (1852 – 1926) assumed responsibility for its design, changing it radically. Gaudi was appointed Architect Director in 1884 and construction continues today; on the subject of the extremely long construction period, Gaudí is said to have remarked: "My client is not in a hurry”.
When Gaudí died in 1926, the basilica was between 15 and 25 percent complete. Work continued after Gaudí's death, until it was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Parts of the unfinished Basilica and Gaudí's models and workshop were destroyed during the war. Present design is based on reconstructed versions of the plans that were burned in a fire as well as on modern adaptations and construction is estimated to be completed in 2026.
As with all David Oscarson Collection pieces, the Sagrada Familia collection is created by combining the expertise of Guilloché engraving with the artistic mastery of Hard Enamel.
Seven-sided geometric sunbursts are emblematic of the instantly-recognized canopy which hangs above the altar inside the La Sagrada Familia Basilica while encircled crosses mirror the iconic ornamentation of the spiraling spires above. Wrapping around the crown of the cap in high relief is Antoni Gaudi’s signature. The Sagrada Familia Collection is the twenty-fifth in the David Oscarson™ series of Limited Edition writing instruments and will be produced in two primary color variations, each limited to production of 73 pieces (including fountain pens and roller balls); one for each year of Antoni Gaudi’s extraordinary life.
